Oh, and I forgot about the fox: Yes he tried to save him, and his motives were pure, but he did so by betraying something the fox was willing to die for, and it was a heartbreaking moment, at least for me. Like here I am, ready to sacrifice my own life for this cause, having chosen to die rather than betray it, and here's someone who care's about me, and oh, look, he's going to betray it for me in a misguided attempt to save me by betraying what I value more than my life, thus taking away my ability even to die for it, and a minute ago I was showing him loyalty.
The disappointed look on the fox's face when Edmund speaks up is just horrible.
