Addy In California!
Mini Addy seems to have gotten the travel bug. When I went to California back in November (shut up I told you I'd get to this eventually), she came with me, because who doesn't like checking out new places? And California has so many interesting places to check out!

This time we're taking the train. Addy's been on road trips, plane trips, and even boat trips, but never on a train trip. And it's doubly exciting to board at 11:30 pm.

In the roomette Addy wanted the top bunk at first ...

... but then she realized it was more fun on the bottom because she could watch the lights go by through the window.

We made it to Sacramento! This was where Addy would meet my grandmother--and they got along very well. I knew they would!

We had Thanksgiving dinner at Gram's house. Since the Thanksgiving Fairies were making all the food, Addy could relax and watch The Game.

Wait, Addy! It's not dinner time yet!

After that, the next leg of the trip was to ride down with my brother and sister to Pleasanton to spend a few days with them--and with their new cat, Harley. We had to quickly establish to Harley that Addy was not to be batted about or chewed on.

Let's check out the Saturday farmer's market! Wow! Look at all the delicious things that are still in season here!

Goat's-milk soap does seem to be better on my own sensitive skin. But choose wisely, Addy! One of these bars could last you the rest of your life, so be sure you like the scent!

My sister works at an awesome little book shop in Pleasanton. Addy browsed the science shelf for a few minutes, but all the books were far too heavy for her to even lift, let alone carry to the cash register. Especially during the Thanksgiving Weekend rush. We got out of there FAST!

We left my sister to her sales and decided to take the BART to San Francisco. Addy is gaining a lot of train experience this trip, isn't she? You can sit there, Addy, as long as nobody else needs it.
I just have to say, for some reason that sign cracks me right the hell up. I don't know how else you'd make icons to represent people with those particular attributes, but that doesn't stop them from looking ridiculous.

At the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, my brother and I wandered around looking at the exhibits while Addy made some new friends.

After that we visited a Ghirardelli chocolate bar (GET IT?) and everyone ordered the sea salt caramel hot cocoa. I think Addy might need a straw for hers. Or a stepladder.

Is your entire weight in chocolate really so much to ask for?

We went back for another day in San Francisco, this time with my sister! It was pretty sunny in Golden Gate Park, and Addy was torn between frolicking with everyone in the sunshine and checking out the California Academy Science Museum.

She finally decided on the Academy Museum. But before going in, Addy tossed a penny into the fountain out front. It had to be a discus-style toss because to her a penny is the size of a personal pizza.

No, Addy! That's a Rafflesia! It's the biggest flower in the world, yes, but it smells like rotting meat!

This exhibit is a much nicer place to hang out than that smelly flower, don't you agree?

I think this is a prototype of Willy Wonka's Great Glass Elevator.

No, thank you. We learned our lesson with the corpse flower.
This was actually just a stereoscopic hologram of an anglerfish that would bite at you whenever your hand tripped the motion sensors. Even knowing it was a hologram, it's amazing how much your survival instinct is like NOPE when it comes to sticking your hand in the way of large teeth.

Addy wasn't sure if Claude the Albino Alligator was real until he wiggled slightly. Yikes!

On top of the Academy is a Living Roof. Addy suggested that I use this idea for the hobbit hole I'm planning to build someday. I dutifully wrote it down.

Finally, it was out last day in California before getting on the train home. Addy had enjoyed her trip, but it's always nice to come home again. Let's just hope that I don't get on the wrong train when we leave!
