On the first day of 2008, I:

-Slept in past noon
-Made tiny bagels out of Sculpey
-Changed nine dolls into pajamas*
-Looked up the Society for Creative Anachronism, as I have been invited to join it by a friend I saw for the first time in probably seven years
-Started reading Brown Girl in the Ring, which I have owned for years but which has also been lost for most of that time
-Typed up more of the half-written Doctors! story from my notebook
-Wrote a bullet-point blog entry
-Resolved to kick 妹 off the Wii in order to play more Super Mario Galaxy**
-Had Earl Grey Tea
-Set no goals whatsoever for next year beyond finishing that previously mentioned Doctors! story

You know how they say you should start out the way you want to continue?  I think I’m doing pretty good.

*And realized that the small dolls have no pajamas, so I improvised with large T-shirts.  Dammit why can I find no patterns or ready-made clothes for 14” vinyl dolls?

**Last night went like this:
Amelia: My only complaint with this game so far is that Nintendo does not know a galaxy from a solar system.  Oh, happy new year, I guess.
妹: (glances at the clock) We’ve still got about ten minutes.
Amelia: Hmph. *plays some more*
Ten minutes later
The Dude: How’s it going?
Amelia: I’m on this level where I have to fling Mario from asteroid to asteroid, but I keep whiffing it and sending him plummeting into the black hole.  At this moment I feel I must point out that Mario is missing!
Siblings: BOOOO old game pun.
Amelia: What’s with all the screaming outside?
妹: I imagine it has to do with the new year.
Amelia: Oh. *goes back to playing*

Warning--the SCA will suck all your available time and energy if you let it. OTOH, nifty costumes. And that's all I shall say on THAT topic, at least until my 12th Night kit is finished. :-)

I would swear I'd seen a mention somewhere about patterns for 14" dolls. Maybe on the historical costuming list. Remind me and I'll check the archives. There's at least one person on the list who mostly does doll costuming these days because it takes up much less space, not to mention supplies, than costuming for humans.

ROCK! Good to know. My dolls are modern girls from Belize and Japan (they're Global Friends with re-assigned identities), but historical would be fun too!

Amazon also lists a zillion books on making doll clothes depending on how masochistic you're feeling. ;-)

I've got some friends who are pretty good resources for that sort of recommendation. Thanks for all your help--you always go the extra mile, and it's always helpful AND impressive. ;)
