Last Night's Winning Dream

"Howard the Duck is Hollywood's most important achievement to date," the Martian Manhunter said. "'The Duck' is one of our top interdimensional agents. When his cover was almost blown, the movie was made in order to make the public think it was all a publicity stunt for the movie."

"They deliberately made it bad so that people wouldn't even question the plausibility of a sentient alien duck," the Flash added.

"But he was obviously some kind of puppet costume," I protested.

"He's a very good actor," The Flash said.

"And you guys aren't even from the same comic label!" I went on.

"That's the beauty of it," said the Martian Manhunter.

And then brainsucking space aliens attacked us.

"I've got to sacrifice myself now for no reason," said the Martian Manhunter. "But first, I should warn you that you didn't properly finish college. You have to go back and live in the dorms again."

"Well, shit," I said.

The End

...and this got me looking at the IMDB page for Howard the Duck, trying to remember what bits of it/what actors in it caused me disturbing dreams when I watched it as a small child, and good god 8 people are credited as Howard the Duck.

That sentence had no purpose.

(I think it was Jeffrey Jones as a scientist taken over by an evil alien.)

Confession: I've never actually even SEEN Howard the Duck. Which makes my subconscious all the weirder.

I've had each of those dreams, but never all at once.

My dreams tend to channel swim. It really seems to be one long dream through the REM cycle. They're a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, dreamy-weamy ... stuff.

My anxiety 'but you're not done!' dreams usually involve high school. One would think that having advanced degrees would trump that. I suppose I haven't had one since I got the Ph. D...

I once had one where I had to go back to elementary. It was incredibly awkward.

Ugh, I've had that one. Apparently I didn't complete some requirement in fifth grade, so I had to go back, and kept having to explain why I was almost 30 years old. Good times.

I have the high school dreams, too. I like the college ones better because they also seem to be about getting out and living on my own, and I feel kind of exhilarated in them. I love living with my parents, but I also loved being able to do my own thing, so I guess there's a wistfulness in them.

The high school ones are just flat-out "Wait, I don't think I've been in this required class AT ALL! What the hell have I been doing?" Those suck.

If Metaquotes were still not-dead, I would meta this.

*grin* A couple months ago I wound up reminiscing briefly with [livejournal.com profile] ursulav about the golden days when Metaquotes was king. "Remember when you'd get quoted and it just made your whole DAY? You'd be walking around all, 'I GOT METAQUOTED! HIGH FIVE!'"

Ironically, we were reminiscing about it on Twitter. Ah, how the times have changed.
