It Wasn't That Funny To Begin With, Anyway

New book in the library today: Zombies of Lake Woebegotten by "Harrison Geillor."

That does it. I am declaring Zombie Remixes to be Old Meme. Time to come up with the next novelty novel genre to torment booksellers and librarians with.

Also, I hereby demand that publishers place a moratorium on any titles that cram the words "dead," "vampire," "fang," or any other undead term into stock idioms and pretend they are puns. Yes, I'm looking at you, Michele Bardsley, and you, Kathy Love. You are spoiling it for the rest of us.

Android Kerenina(sp) was the breaking point for me.

That one is on the shelf, too, and I groaned aloud.

I'm so with you. I admit I was amused the first time I saw Pride and Prejudice and Zombies at Borders. (Honestly I wish my mom, the great Austen fan, were alive so I could have horrified/amused her with it.) However, these days whenever I see a title in that vein I just want to beat the author over the head with a durian.

Part of the problem with that stuff is that once you've read the title, you've got the joke. There's absolutely no need to read the actual book.

With Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I must admit the idea itself was entertainingly juxtaposed--an uptight Regency romance interspersed with blood'n'guts action sequences was pretty funny.

But you're right even that doesn't seem to warrant a whole book. At most I can see it being the subject of an increasingly ridiculous brainstorming session like the ones my sister and I tend to go off on. The title is a suggestion; the rest should be left up to you to play with.

I just wonder who BUYS these books. I mean, seriously.

I'm pushing for Minotaurs to become the new teen heart-throb fantasy being. I'm sure you could get some killer drama out of that. Especially with a sassy street-smart female lead to carry things along....

I dunno, the kraken has a strong following ...

The sassy street-smart female is reserved for a slightly older demographic of urban chick lit fantasy. Not so much Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as it is Sex & The City & Mothman.

Yes, this. I kinda winced when I saw that title myself.
