Quote of the Day, Depression Division
“I can’t read Emily Dickinson. Every time I try I get a few stanzas in and start wanting to scream ‘THESE AREN’T POEMS! THESE ARE SYMPTOMS!’”
Today's quote brought to you by my response to my sister's Emily Dickinson Facebook Flamewar. Do not criticize Emily Dickinson to your former high school English teacher. It gets ugly.

Heh. Of course, that's because I feel a kinship to some of the symptoms.
(Speaking of which, someone's got a book coming out about her suspicion/suggestion that Dickinson was in fact epileptic and so the poems may in fact REALLY show signs of 'symptom'. I forget who, I think there was an article in Smithsonian magazine about it a bit ago.)

Never, ever, underestimate the vehemence of people fighting about authors. I once witnessed my mom and my aunt (sisters-in-law) getting into a shouting match about Jane Austen.
My cousin and I just stared at them. It was epic.
