She's Got A Ruined Eye ... That's ALWAYS! OPEN!

Changing the roommates out of their Halloween Costumes. Kind of a relief for everyone.

Except … damn, I think Kuen’s starting to get silver eye on the right. It’s actually more of a gold color, but it does look a little peely, and her iris is all cloudy. Her company is out of business, and her eyes are fixed, so it may be troublesome to find someone who can do a proper eye swap. I don’t trust doll repair people, especially on one-of-a-kind dolls.

I’ll have to start checking around here to find someone trustworthy. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll consider the internet. Because I want to keep an eye on someone else touchin' mah stuff, dammitall.

This is really random, but I was lurking in AG over 18, and someone linked to some really pretty, but slightly creepy dolls that all had white dresses and colored sashes. Did you happen to catch who made those? I'm perfectly capable of ignoring their inherently uber Christan stories for the sake of a pretty doll.

Would those be the Vanage Dolls? I think they're rather pretty. And trust me, after LoF and other creepy dolls, the Christianity hardly make me bat an eye.

Yes, those are the ones, thank you! I vaguely remember seeing something about LoF, but I have no idea what they are. I'm a real sucker for the color coordinated sashes.

A Life of Faith. Yet another doll company that decided that American Girl was too secular, what with the lesbian abortions and whatnot. Life of Faith dolls are based on treacly Christian books for girls and actually have hands you can make pray--and their clothes are frilly as all hell.

The least scary doll is Laylie, who actually looks pretty cute once you get rid of the WTF PICKANINNY BRAIDS.

They just barely went out of business. GOOD RIDDANCE.

HOLY SHIT ELSIE DINSMORE DOLL KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

Whew, ok, I am so glad I am already laying down. Dude, I read one of the Elsie books on project Gutenberg when one of my friends talked about how creepy it was. It was like a particularly grisly train wreck, one with entrails and beheadings and possibly cannibalism. SO WRONG.

But anyway, on a less all caps-y note, I think the Vanage dolls actually have a pretty sweet message with all the embracing the beauty of diversity. Yes, they overemphasize the love of God bit a little (a lot) much for a non Christian, but that is one very ethnically diverse little cast of dolls. As a little girl I'd have shanked someone for that Bella doll. As an adult I'll probably just abuse my credit card.

Also love the little redheaded doll, though I keep looking at her going "hmm... with an eye color change you could be Alanna or Anne." But my husband took one look at the dolls and went "That's not Alanna, that one is your friend Liz, and the other one (Bella) is you." Obviously it's never to late to project yourself on your toys.

I am so absurdly tempted to read that right now ... but I may have already hit critical mass with Left Behind Fridays.

I love how very empty-headed the doll looks, too. One of my rules for dolls is that they must have the appearance that they have, y'know, minds.

I do like the Vanange dolls--they're much less holier-than-thou about the God stuff, and I do like the self-esteem and diversity messages.

I jsut went to look at that site. Accordding to the blurbs, the Itaialan redhead is a cousin to the black girl from the Seychelles. That's pretty fascinating.

Can't get past the faces, but still, fascinating.

And the blonde girl is cousin to the biracial New Yorker--Bella, I think it is. Bella's mother is Black and her father is blond with green eyes. Kinda cool, although they're a little overenthusiastic with those exclamation points. (Makes me think of Christine from Maskerade.)

Bella's face is all right, but the others are a little odd, yes.

What company was she from? They may have been acquired by another company that would still offer repairs. The Magic Attic Club did that for quite a few years after they went out of business.

She's from Just Pretend/KidGalaxy's Dream Doll Designer, and their iDolls line. iDolls has been out of business since 2001, but they do have a descendant in Carpatina. I've been checking around today to see what I can find.
