Mea Culpa

V.J. Day
Victory Day (Rhode Island)
Independence Day (Pakistan)

Right, so, I’d like to let you all know that I made a lane change today without looking—one of the very few times I’ve ever done that—and almost banged into a very irate driver.

It shook me. Don’t you hate that?

Yes, yes, you probably don’t care, but I thought blogging it would be therapeutic.

Remind me to always check my blind spot.

Well... at least you KNOW it was your fault...?

There were a couple times recently where I almost hit cars coming from NOWHERE. Like they just magically appeared behind me. So I don't know if I didn't see them or if they were speeding or if they just dropped out of the sky...

Anyway, I guess I'm trying to say, "Don't feel too bad".

I've almost hit a car changing lanes once too... He came out from an expanding lane on the right no one was supposed to be on before the point I changed to it legally so I didn't think to look back until the very last second, and it's a good thing I did or I might not be here writing this right now. o_o

And yeah, it is therapeutic, isn't it?

Also, I didn't know Rene Auberjinois had done the English voice for the cook in The Little Mermaid! :O I'd only seen the French version of it when I was a child, and of course I had no knowledge of the Dominion War back then to refer him to either. How creepy I found the visuals in the movie during that song probably had a lot to do with why I ended up becoming a vegetarian, come to think of it. ;P

Hee, yes. He's also the perpetrator of "YOO-NEE-CORN! YOO-NEE-CORN!", if you have seen Rankin Bass' The Last Unicorn. (And if not, I don't really recommend it. The only thing I liked about it was the soundtrack, which is done by America. My friends would argue with me on this, though ~ they think it's a wonderful movie.) My sister and I tend to shout that or sing choice bits of Chef Louis's song when we see him on Boston Legal, and then we collapse laughing.

It's always enlightening to find out what strange behind-the-scenes things marginally serious actors have been up to on the animated front ~ the discoveries can be highly entertaining. I'm fascinated by voices and thus voice actors, and I love to see who I can spot. If you're interested, Voice Chasers has some good references. (Here's Mr. Auberjonois's page.)

I always thought the chef scene was morbidly hilarious. I used to get a perverse pleasure out of saying, "Well, look at it from Sebastian's point of view ~ what if you were watching somebody carve up PEOPLE that way?", because I was a little monster. I think I like that it kind of reminds you that even though you get your fish in packets or cans now, you are still participating in the ol' Red In Tooth And Claw scenario. I'm comfortable with that, but it's good to be reminded. ;)

Plus, the lyrics are pretty funny: "Here's something for tempting the palate, prepared in the classic technique: first you pound the fish flat with a mallet ..."

Oh, and one MORE thing! As you have been a translator, do you know where I could get other language Disney soundtracks? I find their songs (and movies) very helpful when I'm learning a new language, because they're simple storylines and I have 'em all memorized in English. But I'm not sure where to look ...
