[livejournal.com profile] igntethestars inquires after Star Trek.

1. Probably either Picard, because he’s PICARD, or Geordi, because he was Reading Rainbow’s LeVar Burton.
2. Chief O’Brien. But I do tend to enjoy the background dudes, so I don’t know why I’m surprised.
3. Lore just manages to annoy me. I am, it seems, not one for the Evil Counterpart.
4. Neelix. Yes, I know, he’s Neelix, but he had some pretty interesting character development post-Kes.
5. Kes. She was okay at first but kind of never went anywhere.
6. Data. He’s fully functional and anatomically correct! Also, Doctor Bashir, who by the tally my friend and I once came up with turned out to be DS9’s village bicycle.
7. Picard. My philosophy is diplomacy, but it helps to have social skills.
8. Riker. Then Troi. Then Riker again. Then Riker again. Then Riker …
9. Kirk/Spock. I love watching when one gets in danger and the other starts fretting. Also Bashir/Garak and Jadzia/Worf.
10. Data/Geordi. I prefer their bromance.
11. Picard or Spock
12. Data, Spock, Uhura, the EMH, Chief O’Brien
13. The Borg, Troi, Riker, Nero, Khan. (Khan was a terrible villain, y’all. Don’t deny it.)
14. Data. I don’t get humans, either.
15. See #4.

[livejournal.com profile] renshai gave me my pick of Tamora Pierce universes.

1. Tris
2. Evvy. When I describe Evvy she sounds so cliché, and yet she is so AWESOME.
3. I’d have a tough time figuring out who everyone loves—haven’t been much in the fandom. But as far as in-universe goes, I’m not really interested in Sandry as much as the other three.
4. Same problem as #3.
5. I used to like the villain in Street Magic a lot more.
6. Rosethorn.
7. Also Rosethorn.
8. Pasco. He’s an obnoxious little twerp. Of course Sandry gets the dumb student.
9. Lark/Rosethorn
10. Any of the four together seems so wrong
11. Daja and Tris
12. Rosethorn, Briar, Ben, Evvy, Keth (sorry, Sandry!)
13. Pasco, Lady Whatsername from Street Magic, Empress Berenine, Nia and Jory
14. Tris. I wish I could kill people for interrupting my reading.
15. I don’t have a favorite of the four; I only have a least favorite. I love Sandry, but not with the crazy happy love of the other three.

[livejournal.com profile] ellenmillion wants me to do Torn World. I will have to wait on that until I’ve gotten more of a feel for everyone, but it will happen!

OH GOD KHAN. He really was just a terrible villain,

[identity profile] renshai.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same about Sandry - I like her, just not nearly as much as I like her sibs.

How can you resist the power of gold lamé?

When I was a teenager, I went to my first Star Trek Convention. (Don't mock me!)

Anyway, Alexander Siddig was there and I met him and he called me "love" . I know it's a British thing, but I've been kind of in love with him ever since.

I was 14/15.

[identity profile] laughinggas13.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww!

My first con had him as guest, and I defy anyone who's seen him not to love him.

This is the sort of thing I shouldn't even consider spending time on... but I can't resist.

My Star Trek (TNG) fandom answers. Bear in mind that I fell in love with this show at AGE 6, because that explains a lot. A LOT.

1. The character I first fell in love with: Deanna Troi. I was very nearly convinced that she was actually my birth mother and had been forced to leave me on earth for some reason.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Data. In spite of the fact that humans baffle me too, as a child I was hyper-aware of any sort of social awkwardness or embarrassment-- Data too often made me uncomfortable on his behalf with his "mistakes." It took me years to figure out just how awesome he was. Also, Deanna's mom and Q, for similar reasons. (Also, I hated Q because he was always messing with Picard... to whom I was fiercely loyal).

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Lore. With you on that.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Deanna Troi. Yeah, I still love her, even as I cringe at myself for doing so. I also preferred Dr. Pulaski to Dr. Crusher.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Tasha. I'm sorry, but she just wasn't around long enough to stop being flat, and her backstory was really poorly done.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Geordi, probably. I do love me some geeky guy! And Picard, if I weren't too damn intimidated.

7. The character I'd want to be like: Guinan! She's been my hero for years.

8. The character I'd slap: The freakin' Borg queen. What the hell, metallo-bitch?

9. A pairing that I love: I don't really go in much for fantasy pairings, but my favorites that actually happened were:
Troi and Riker, even if they didn't have a proper wedding. Picard and Beverly, because it's a Doomed Love, and they are both so damn intense and handsome. Also, the almost-romance that happened in the first episode with a Trill, because it was one of the first times I saw I hint of something blatantly non-homophobic in an onscreen romance.

10. A pairing that I despise: Troi and Worf. It just plain didn't make sense.

11. Favorite character: Picard

12. My five favorite characters: Picard, Guinan, Troi, Riker (yes, Riker), and Data. Probably. There have been some great minor/bit characters, too, like O'Brian's wife (I forget how to spell her name), and Dr. Noonien Soong (pretty sure I'm misspelling that too).

13. My five least favorite characters: William Shatner. Er.... no, wait. Nero doesn't even count because he isn't canonical, but he'd be at the top of the list. Other than that? I can't even think of any that I truly dislike, although most of the villains were rather poorly done IMHO.

14. Which character I am most like: I have no damn idea. You tell me! *grumble grumble* Barclay, probably. Or maybe Deanna, still.

15. My deep, dark fandom secret: See most of the above. OK, plus the fact that, as a grade-school girl, I wanted to marry Wesley Crusher when I grew up.

[identity profile] padparadscha.livejournal.com 2010-03-16 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, I love the hell out of Lwaxana Troi. If Deanna doesn't want her as a mom, I'll take her as a crazy aunt!

And I also agree with you on Q--originally I just thought he was a dink. Now I think he's an entertaining dink!

And yes, god damn, i'd want to be like Guinan. Except I don't want her mushroom hats. Those I could live without.

For Star Trek question 6, I'd have said Bashir if it hadn't meant that I'd probably get a horse's head in my bed from Garak in the morning. :D

You make a good point ...
