Aliens Named After The Internet, Plus Putting In Work On The Career Chip
It’s been a monstery sort of day.
Tried to make an orly* in Spore’s demo of the Creature Creator. Alas! There are no trunks in the demo, nor is there a satisfactory radula. I’m contemplating shelling out the ten bucks for the full version. I will not wait longer for the whole game, dammit. I want my elephant-trunked scaly deaf alien now! WHEN IS THE DS VERSION COMING OUT?!
Also, I need a mouse with a scroll wheel. The scroll bit on my touch pad doesn’t seem to cut it in the game, and it makes it hard to do proper sizing. This is what I get for only using a touch pad.
Other monster news: I think I applied for a temp agency on Monster.com today while I went on an applying spree. I’m not actually sure, however, since the job descriptions and company descriptions are always in the vaguest possible terms. There are a lot of postings for things like Assistant Manager In Client Care at Someplace, Inc., which is a company dedicated to Management Opportunities and Staffing Options In Quality Service. I’m trying to figure out if I’m applying for a job or an abstract concept. It’s amazing the gymnastics these places will go through to avoid saying, “We need someone to file some shit because this place is a mess” or “You will be the person who takes the money from a customer in exchange for things.” No wonder job-hunting is so depressing.
Maybe it’s a test. First you have to figure out what the hell the job is for. Then they decide that you have basic investigative skills and were willing to take up the challenge offered, and thus you are worthy of the job. (“I feel I’m the one for this job because I managed to figure out what it actually entails, not just that stuff you put in the requirements about ‘good work ethic’ or ‘gets along well with others.’”)
Well, at least I got some stuff out. Now, back to the fun monsters …
*So named because the first drawing I did of one, on some piece of long-lost notebook paper, looked amazingly like the O RLY? Owl.
Bonus footnote to the same spot: I’m not sure whether “infrasonic” is actually a word, but it should be.
Bonus bonus footnote on the drawing itself: This is an Early Orly. I've made a few changes since then: the skull is less lumpy and more shapely (except on alpha males, who have a big old bony thing like a billy goat's horns); a lower center of gravity; a third small eye on the back of the head so that the three are spaced evenly around it; and better placement of those eyes so they don't interfere quite so much with the tentacles. Although they're still close to the tentacles--that was a plot point in one of my Doctors! stories.

Ooh, jobs. The real world is a strange and foreign place. >_>

Webster's Dictionary defines infrasonic, or infrasound, as "1: having or relating to a frequency below the audibility range of the human ear. 2: utilizing or produced by infrasonic waves or vibrations."
