Cue The Sound Effects
On CSI Night the great and powerful
chibicharibdys showed up with Bob-omb earrings. Bob-omb earrings. They were extraordinarily cool, and they inspired me to do something I’ve been toying with doing for a while anyway.
I made myself Super Mario Earrings.
I went with Mushroom, Fireflower, and Starman. Since I’ve got three holes in my ears,* the trinity of power-ups worked perfectly. And so I set to work!
Phase One didn’t go so well. Note to self: 275° ≠ 375°. And please ignore the surrounding crud. I made a mess and forgot to clean up before taking the picture.
Phase Two, however, was a success!
Also, what’s up with bead shop people? Why are they always so snotty to beginners? This is the second shop I’ve been to where instead of being at least friendly they got all pissy when I didn’t know something, like what a “French hook” was. But I got the hooks anyway!
I also got those little wires you put beads on, because at that point I was too grumpy to deal with asking for "those little loopy things you stick on the hooky things to make them swing more." So I got the straight ones and twisted them and clipped them into the loops I wanted. Before I baked the Sculpey I made some holes in the backs (or top in the shroom's case), and after baking I put the wires in those holes and glued them in. That's what you call a half-assed job, kids!
Left ear gets the flower and the shroom. I actually had some trouble deciding whether the flower should have eyes, since it doesn’t in the original game, but it didn’t look right without them. (I also am considering doing the inverse colors. But I like this one. It’s cute.
I am invincible!
And the full force of the powerups! I think they go well with my hat, don’t they?
*I used to have four, but I got tired of having a small, perpetually infected and inflamed keloid in my right ear’s cartilage. And don’t you piercing aficionados start on how I should have taken better care of it. I took fucken excellent care of it. I got it from a certified hand-piercing hollow-needle place from an expert and washed it and salt watered it and petted it and gave it its fruit snack every day at four. The truth is my skin just seized upon any excuse to inflame and complain.
