All right, you know what, I’m going to come out and say it.  I am getting sick of this.  When did “spoiling” a story become a felony? And when did spoiling start to include everything from who dies, which is sort of understandable, to what somebody will wear, which isn’t?

I don’t really mind people wanting to enjoy the surprise. I don’t share that—I prefer spoilers, because I like to know what’s coming—but I can believe it.  But the Leaky Cauldron webmaster says, “And if you decide to tell us before that, you'll incur the wrath of a staff of almost 200, most of whom have been waiting almost 10 years for these final revelations and can NEVER get back the moment you rob by spoiling them.” Am I the only one who thinks that this is a bit of an overreaction? Whatever happened to “Aw, damn, you told me the ending.  Oh, well”? Does anyone else think that pitchforks and torches are a little much for a damn book series?

I’d pause and go “Oh, wait, this is Harry Potter,” but it’s not just that.  Fans do that about everything, and it drives me nuts. No, I won’t spoil things for you on purpose, but fer chrissakes, suck it up if you get spoiled. Life’s tough.

And that’s my rant for the month.

SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!!!

... wait, I'm late. :(

Also, I think that is an extreme overreaction, but Harry Potter fans are kind of crazed and rabid.

I was peeved when I got that spoiler ahead of time, actually - a troll posted it to one of the comms I was in at the time. But I was a mature adult about it and went "damn! Oh, well," and moved on.

Agreed.

I have a friend who dramatically covers his ears whenever someone starts talking about a movie or book. It's a little annoying.

"...the first distant rumblings of the weirdness that usually precedes a Harry Potter publication can be heard on the horizon," Rowling wrote on her website Monday.

Amen.
