Bad Sign Number Six Million And Eight

Somehow, I find this picture by Michael Wagner to be one of the most magnificent and beautiful that I've ever seen.

No, I am not kidding.  The lighting, and the eye, and the contours ... especially the contours ... I could just get lost tracing its build and imagining it moving ...

I realized I was in trouble when I heard H.R. Giger say that he wanted his Alien creature to be beautiful, and I thought, "And you succeeded spectacularly, sir."  The thing is, his vision was influenced by opium.  Me, I'm like that without the opium.

But come on.  Unless you're my mom, how can you not find that thing gorgeous?

A life of geek sensibilities will do that to ya. ;)

Which leads me to wonder if there's a general geek idea of what constitutes beauty, or if different branches of geekdom have different ideals. Certainly there are different ideals for us medievalists, depending on time period and locale of interest.
