Man, I've gone back around to Bruce Coville and honestly, his technical merit as a writer is darn good. So I am glad I read him as a kid!
Sometimes overanalysis is an entertaining exercise, but the trouble is when someone becomes set in the analysis. I have to watch out for that, myself.
Matthew 19:21 would be a fun ironic bumper sticker to see on a fancy sports car.
