I think part of what made the wizard-cat books so good is that Duane actually *knows* the city. Like, is familiar with it, how it looks and feels. I find it really jarring to read urban fantasy set in Chicago when it's clear that the author has only been here once or twice...even the experience of the tourist downtown areas isn't the same when you're a visitor vs. a local.
