By the way, out of curiosity, do those ever actually work? I've been wondering that for years. Who clicks on a link embedded in a random pile of words and junk code, anyway? SOMEBODY must, since y'all have stuck with the method, but WHO?

I think a lot of them aren't even expecting people to click on the links; they're trying to get more Googlejuice by making it look like lots of people are linking to that thing, it should totally come up in search results higher! It's popular and relevant!

...ah. This is the only thing that makes sense of some of the random messages I get in ancient entries.

It still doesn't make sense of the lj spam with no links in it, though. Those remain a mystery.
