The Moon's kind of a pointless destination anyhow. As you mentioned above, Asteroids are pretty much where it's at. IIRC, better resource availability if you pick the right ones, and there's no Gravity Well to climb out of if you want to use it as a stepping stone to, say, Mars or the Jovian Moons.
