I remember, with the sort of fondness that only copes from a great deal of memory fuzzing over time, the "lol noob" reactions I got when I bravely ventured onto the Zompist BB with my very first conlang. Which was very much an artlang, and not very good, and ended up with me repeatedly frustrated and confused because people would ask questions about why I'd chosen something in the language and not think that "Because I think that linguistic feature is a lot of fun" or "I'm a big fan of that phoneme" was good enough as an answer.
